Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2019 Eligibility Criteria

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the dates for the 12th edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). The board will be conducting the exam on 7th July 2019 (Sunday). The information bulletin for the same is available on the official CTET website.

The online application process for the CTET exam has started on the official website from 5th February 2019. Candidates can apply for the same till 5th March 2019. However, before proceeding with the application process, candidates must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria as it will be finally verified by the recruiting/appointing authority.

CTET exam is conducted for primary and elementary level teaching. Candidates are required to appear for Paper-I and Paper-II for teaching at different levels. Those who are eligible for both the papers can appear in both. Here are the eligibility criteria for both the papers.

Eligibility for Primary Level Teaching (Classes I-V) – Paper-I

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

OR

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 45% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.

OR

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

OR

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)

OR

Graduation with minimum 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

Eligibility for Elementary Level Teaching (Classes VI-VIII) – Paper-II

Graduation and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

OR

Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) course.

OR

Graduation with minimum 45% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) as per the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations.

OR

Senior Secondary (equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

OR

Senior Secondary (equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. or B.A/B.Sc.Ed.

OR

Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

Important Notes

  • Relaxation of up to 5% in the minimum qualifying marks will be allowed for candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/Differently Abled categories.
  • As per the official notification, “For the purpose of this Notification, a Diploma/Degree course in teacher education recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) only shall be considered. However, in the case of Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education), a course recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only shall be considered.”
  • For D.Ed. (Special Education) candidates – Such candidates, after appointment, have to undergo an NCTE recognized 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
  • The above-mentioned qualifications are for teachers of Languages, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies/Social Science, etc. The qualification criteria for teachers of Physical Education, Craft Education, Art Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc. subjects are as per the NCTE Regulations and norms prescribed by the state governments.

Candidates must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria before applying for the CTET exam.
