UGC NET 2019 (June): Important Dates, Eligibility, Application Process, Exam Pattern & Syllabus, Other Details & FAQs


The National Eligibility Test (NET) is the minimum eligibility criterion for college and university-level lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian students. The national-level entrance examination is held twice a year – June and December. Till recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) administered the exam once a year. From December 2018, the National Testing Agency conducts the exam. The UGC-NET 2019 exam will be conducted on 20th June.

UGC-NET June 2019 Latest Notification –

NTA has announced the registration dates for the upcoming NET exam. NET aspirants can now fill in the online application form between 1st and 30th March 2019. Further, the Agency has released a Public Notice for the updated ‘UGC-NET 2019 syllabus (June)’. The updated syllabus has been furnished below (see the ‘Syllabus’ section).

UGC-NET 2019 Eligibility

Before going ahead with the NET application process 2019, interested candidates must check their eligibility and ensure they are eligible.

Nationality –

  • Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply for the examination

Educational Qualification –

  • Must have passed Master’s Degree or equivalent from any UGC recognised college/ university
  • Should have scored 55% marks in aggregate
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC-NCL/ PwD categories enjoy relaxation of 5%, i.e. 50% marks would work for them
  • Also, those who have qualified Masters by 19th September 1991 avail 5% marks relaxation
  • Those appearing in the final years of Masters are eligible to apply

Age Limit –

  • For Junior Research Fellow (JRF): Candidates must not be more than 30 years old
  • For Assistant Professor (AP): There is no upper age limit for the Assistant Professor post

UGC NET 2019 Application Process

The application process for the National Eligibility Test June 2019 will begin from 1st March 2019. It will be carried out on the official website of NTA NET ( Candidates need to be careful with the spellings of their names, parents’ names, addresses, etc. Follow the below-

  • Go to the official website –
  • Click on the ‘UGC NET December Application Process 2019
  • A form will appear on the screen
  • Fill in the required details – your name, father’s name, mother’s name, gender, email address, aadhaar card number, etc.
  • Click on ‘Submit’
  • Note down the system-generated ‘registration number
  • Upload the scanned images of the passport-size photograph and signature
  • Make payment of the application fee
  • After successful payment, download the application fee confirmation page and take a printout of the application form for further reference

Note: Take a printout of the acknowledgement page only after when you see the ‘Fee Status’ OK.

UGC NET 2019 Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The examination will be held in online mode. The UGC NET exam comprises of two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper-I is of General nature including questions on teaching and research aptitude. It is common for all. Paper-II is subject-related. Candidates are advised to choose the subject (their PG subject) for the exam. Here are further details of UGC NET 2019 exam pattern.

The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day:

  • Shift-I – 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

The UGC-NET 2019 syllabus has been updated. The UGC NET 2019 June exam will be conducted for 82 subjects. Candidates are advised to follow the official syllabus strictly.

Other Details

UGC-NET Admit Card 2019 (June) –

The admit card for NET June 2019 session will be issued on 15th May. Candidates will be able to download the hall tickets from the official website.

  • Go to the official website of NTA –
  • Select the admit card link on the Homepage
  • Log-in with your application number and password
  • It is there on the screen
  • Download the admit card
  • Take a print of it for your further use

Note: Candidates should bear in mind that they need to bring the admit card to the examination centre with a photo identity card, such as aadhaar card, passport, pan card, voters id card, driving license, etc. The NTA UGC NET hall ticket 2019 will contain the name of the candidate, father’s name, mother’s name, coordinating institution, roll number, email id, subject name, exam date and time, venue details, candidates’ passport size photo and useful instructions.

NTA UGC-NET Process 2019 –

The selection of candidates will depend on the following factors:

  • Number of slots for a particular category
  • Number of candidates belonging to that particular category
  • Total number of qualified candidates
  • Preference of the candidates (JRF or Lectureship)

UGC NET Answer Key 2019 –

Soon after the examination is over, NTA will release the UGC NET answer key 2019 on its official website within a week. Candidates will be given an option to challenge the provisional answer key on payment of Rs 1000/- per question. NTA’s decision on the challenges made will be final. A revised/ final NTA UGC NET answer key will be released after considering the challenges. The result will be declared on the basis of the final answer key.

Please Note that no request in respect of answer key will be entertained after the declaration of NTA UGC NET result.

UGC NET December 2018 Answer Key

Click the link ( for accessing the UGC NET December 2018 answer key. Candidates have to provide their ‘Application Number/ Roll Number’, ‘Date of Birth’ and ‘Security Pin’ (as shown on the screen).

UGC NET Cut-off 2019 –

The UGC NET Cut-off will be released by the National Testing Agency on the official website. Separate cut-off lists are released for the JRF & Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor posts. The subject-wise and category-wise cut-offs will be available in the PDF file. As per the official notification, the minimum marks to be obtained for becoming eligible for JRF and Assistant Professor are –

The official notification states the procedure and criteria for determining the result/ cut-off.

NTA UGC-NET 2019 Result –

The National Testing Agency will declare the UGC-NET result 2019 by 09 July. It will be accessed on the official website of NTA NET. NET aspirants must provide application number and password to log-in.

UGC NET 2018 Result –

The UGC NET Result for December 2018 session has been uploaded on the official NTA NET website on 5th January 2019. Candidates can check their result through the application number and password using the following steps:

  • Visit the official NTA Net website –
  • Click on ‘View Result – UGC NET December 2018’ button.
  • Provide your application number, password, and security pin to log-in.
  • Your result will appear on the screen; download and take a printout.

UGC will issue the eligibility certificate to candidates who have qualified the exam. The UGC NET merit list will also be uploaded on the official website soon for different categories and subjects.

UGG NET is one of the most competitive exams. So, candidates need to have the best preparation to crack it. Studying randomly will serve no purpose to them. There are some tips for their preparation:

If you fall in the reserved category, you are eligible for the exam.

Q: What is the upper age limit for the NET examination?

A: There is no upper age limit for the posts of Assistant Professor. However, candidates can apply for the award of JRF only until 30 years of age.

Q: What is the maximum number of attempts for the exam?

A:  For the post of assistant professor, there is no limit on maximum attempts as there is no upper age limit. And, for JRF, candidates can apply till the age of 30.

Q: Is there any provision of negative marking in the exam?

A: No.

Q: Is there any change in the number of questions in the UGC NET exam?

A: The UGC NET exam comprises of two papers with 50 questions in Paper-I and 100 questions in Paper-II

      There is no official date for release of NTA NET answer key. However, it will release before 10th January 2019.

  2. I forgot my password for sign in, and tried to reset it with the link provided in the site, but I was unable to reset it. Confirmation code was sent to my phone but it is displayed that session time out. What should I do

    1. All you need to do is make the process quick. Complete the process in one go. As soon as you receive the confirmation code, enter it in the space provided. If you are not receiving the code quickly, click on the resend option. Try recovering your password again.

    The UGC NET EXAM how many time conducted in year.

    1. Hello Vinayak,

      In the year 2018, the exam was conducted twice – in July and in December. However, there is no official announcement on 2019 exam schedule. As soon as NTA makes any announcement for the same, it will be updated here. So stay in touch.

  4. How can i get the answer key of Dec 2018 net exam. I couldn’t download it before 1st June and now it is not available.

    1. You cannot download the answer key now. It was available only till 1st January 2019.

  5. My percentile score is more than 35% and more than cut off% for commerce under OBC category. But result is not qualified for JRF or Assistant professor .

    1. The cut-off for Dec 2018 session will release soon. And, this might be because of the qualifying criteria which is only top 6% of the candidates who have appeared for the exam will be declared qualified.

  6. I cleared UGC net 2018 December session. can i apply for June session for JRf. suppose if i failed in June session , the December session are valid or not?

    1. Yes, you can try for qualifying for JRF. Irrespective of the JRF result, you will remain NET qualified.
